Tarek is responsible for the REC Foundation's regional operations in California, Nevada and Hawaii. The Foundation's mission is to increase student interest and involvement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by engaging students in hands-on, affordable, and sustainable robotics engineering programs. A key focus of the REC Foundation's programs is workforce development for the new technology-based economy. Tarek oversees the programs' judging processes in over 50 countries world-wide. He also assists with the growth of VEX U, the organization's college program. Prior to joining the REC Foundation, Tarek taught in the College of Engineering at California State University, Northridge for 27 years.
